Amarga Navidad
Starring: Bárbara Lennie, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón
Screenplay: Pedro Almodóvar
Synopsis:
The film features two alternative stories. The first is set in 2004 over a long weekend in December and follows Elsa, an advertising manager. The second story is set in 2026 and follows Raul, a screenwriter and director who is currently writing a screenplay which we soon learn is actually the story of Elsa, her boyfriend Bonifacio, and her friends Patricia and Natalia. Interwoven with the fiction, Elsa is, in a way, Raul's alter ego who turns to autofiction as an attempt to solve his long period of creative block. He looks deep within himself, but cannot help but profile the people who are an integral part of his most intimate world.
The film explores the close relationship between reality and fiction, between inspiration and life, opening a debate about the boundaries of autofiction. It premiered in the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival!
Tickets for the screening on 30 July 2026 at 9 pm can be purchased online HERE, as well as at the KIC box office one hour before the start.
