In 1941, the Ustasha movement establishes the Independent State of Croatia and immediately begins a reign of terror against Serbs, Jews, Roma and those Croats who do not accept the new order. At the Maksimir stadium, the Ustaše decide to demonstratively separate the secondary school pupils of Serbian and Jewish nationality from those of Croatian nationality, but the young communist illegalists – the SKOJ members – decide to sabotage the action and set fire to the (wooden) stadium. Among them is a young schoolboy whose girlfriend, the daughter of a school professor, is of Serbian nationality, while his best friend has become a zealous Ustaša...
At the 1977 Pula Film Festival, the film won the Golden Arena for Best Screenplay and the Grand Silver Arena.
