Davor Vrankić - The Straight Story

U zagrebačkoj Galeriji Forum 3. srpnja u 19 sati otvara se samostalna izložba hrvatskog umjetnika Davora Vrankića pod nazivom The Straight Story. Izložba će premijerno predstaviti pedeset tabli stripa realiziranih u Parizu između 1992. i 1994. godine.

Koristeći isključivo olovku i papir, bez skica i modela, u svojim crtežima Vrankić kombinira vizualna iskustva tradicionalnih i suvremenih medija, od slikarstva do filma, fotografije i 3D kompjutorski generirane slike, te ih transformira u prizore svog osobnog realizma.

Od 1991. godine Vrankić živi i radi u Parizu, te je umjetničku afirmaciju ponajprije stekao na međunarodnoj sceni. Njegovi radovi predstavljeni su na mnogim samostalnim i grupnim izložbama u Parizu, New Yorku, Bruxellesu, Amsterdamu, Los Angelesu, Londonu, Santa Feu, Zagrebu, Rijeci i Osijeku. Dobitnik je brojnih nagrada za svoj rad, a njegova se djela nalaze u zbirkama svjetskih muzeja, fondacijama, te značajnim privatnim zbirkama kao što suMoMA, New York, Museum Overholland, Amsterdam, Teaching Tang Museum, Saratoga Springs, New York, Museum of Art Ningbo, Kina, Muzej suvremene umjetnosti, Zagreb, Muzej moderne i  suvremene umjetnosti, Rijeka, itd.

Nakon njegove dosada najveće samostalne izložbe u Hrvatskoj, održane u zagrebačkom Muzeju suvremene umjetnosti, Vrankić će u Galeriji Forum izložiti strip koji je po njegovim riječima nastao bez storyboard-a, kao inicijacijsko putovanje u kojemu glavni lik simbolizira lutanje suvremenog čovjeka u svijetu koji se mijenja iz dana u dan. 

Vrankić o procesu nastajanja tog rada ističe:„U trenutku kada sam radio strip nisam bio u stanju analitičkog razmišljanja, radilo se o improvizaciji koja se organski razvijala iz table u tablu. Utoliko mi je zanimljivo da se naslov izložbe The Straight Story spontano nametnuo dvadeset osam godina nakon što je strip nastao.“

Kustos izložbe je Feđa Gavrilović, povjesničar umjetnosti, likovni kritičar i voditelj Galerije Forum.

Izložbu prati katalog u hrvatsko – engleskom i francusko – engleskom izdanju.

The Gallery Forum in Zagreb is pleased to invite you on July 3, 2020, at 7 p.m. to the opening of a solo exhibition by the Croatian artist Davor Vrankić entitled The Straight Story. The exhibition will premiere 50 comic panels created in Paris between 1992 and 1994.

Vrankić realizes his drawings only with pencil and paper, and without models or sketches. His work combines the visual experiences of traditional and contemporary media, including painting, cinema, photography and computer-generated 3D images, to transform and stage them in a completely personal approach to realism.

Vrankić has lived and worked in Paris since 1991 and has gained international acclaim. His works have been presented in many solo and group exhibitions in Paris, New York, Brussels, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, London, Santa Fe, Zagreb, Rijeka and Osijek. He has received numerous awards and his works can be found in important museums, foundations and private collections around the world, such as the MoMA New York, the Overholland Museum, the Teaching Tang Museum, the Museum of Art Ningbo, the Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Rijeka. Following his largest solo exhibition in Croatia to date, which was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, the artist will now present his comic at the Gallery Forum.

According to the author, this comic was created without thestoryboard, as an initiatory journey in which the main character symbolize the contemporary man’s wandering in an ever-changing world. As Vrankić himself points out his creative process: “I was not in analytical state of mind in the moment when I was creating the comic; it was an improvisation which organically spread from panel to panel. I find it quite interesting that the title of this exhibition, The Straight Story, spontaneously emerged 28 years after the comic was created.

The exhibition is curated by Feđa Gavrilović, art critic and historian, and the director of Gallery Forum.

The exhibition is accompanied by Croatian-English and French-English catalogues.

La Galerie Forum à Zagreb a le plaisir de vous convier le 3 juillet 2020 à 19 h au vernissage de l’exposition personnelle de l'artiste croate Davor Vrankić intitulée The Straight Story. L'exposition dévoilera en avant-première cinquante planches de bande dessinée réalisées à Paris entre 1992 et 1994.

Davor  Vrankić réalise ses dessins uniquement avec le crayon et le papier, sans modèle, ou croquis.

Il manie les expériences visuelles des médias traditionnels et contemporains, celles de la peinture, du cinéma, de la photographie et des images 3D générées par ordinateur, pour les transformer et mettre en scène dans une approche du réalisme tout à fait personnelle.

Depuis 1991, Vrankić vit et travaille à Paris, mais il s’est fait principalement une place sur la scène artistique internationale. Ses œuvres ont été présentées dans de nombreuses expositions individuelles et collectives à Paris, New York, Bruxelles, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Londres, Santa Fe, Zagreb, Rijeka et Osijek. Il a reçu de nombreux prix pour son travail, et ses œuvres sont conservées dans les plus grands musées d’art contemporain, fondations et collections privées du monde, tel que MoMa, Museum Overholland, Teaching Tang Museum, Museum of Art Ningbo, Musée d'art contemporain de Zagreb, Musée d’art moderne et contemporain de Rijeka, etc.

À la suite de sa plus importante exposition personnelle en Croatie à ce jour, qui s’est tenue l’année dernière au Musée d'art contemporain de Zagreb, l'artiste présentera à la galerie Forum une bande dessinée. Selon l’artiste elle a été créée sans story-board, comme un parcours initiatique dans lequel le personnage principal symbolise l'errance de l’homme contemporain dans un monde en perpétuelle mutation.

C’est ainsi que Vrankić décrit son processus créatif : "Au moment où je travaillais sur la bande dessinée, je n'étais pas dans un état de pensée analytique, c'était une improvisation qui se déployait organiquement de planche en planche. Je trouve particulièrement intéressant que le titre The Straight Story s'est naturellement imposé vingt-huit ans après la création de la bande dessinée. "

Le commissariat de l'exposition est assuré par Feđa Gavrilović, l’historien de l’art, critique d’art et directeur de la Galerie Forum.

L'exposition sera accompagnée d'un catalogue en deux éditions bilingues, croate-anglais et français-anglais.
