What Alice sees as propaganda, Zhanna believes to be service to her homeland. As a correspondent for Russian state television, Zhanna’s job is to shape the image of the world in line with Kremlin narratives. When her teenage daughter shows little connection to Russian identity, Zhanna takes her on a journey across the world’s largest country in an attempt to bring her closer to her roots. As they travel through Putin’s Russia, Zhanna is increasingly confronted with her own past and sense of belonging, while the invasion of Ukraine looms in the background. A Little Grey Wolf Will Come is a layered and courageous film about intergenerational (mis)understanding and the painful experience of losing one’s homeland.
