What happens when one of Silicon Valley's most notorious con artists decides to tell her own story to the cameras of a director who has made blurring the lines between reality and fiction his signature style? You can see everything (2026), the new documentary film from Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, presents an extraordinary portrait of Elizabeth Holmes, founder of the collapsed biotechnology company Theranos, whose promises of a revolutionary blood-testing technology culminated in one of the biggest business scandals of recent decades. Filmed in secret over almost four years, the film gradually transcends the boundaries of a conventional documentary portrait, evolving into an unpredictable study of manipulation, self-presentation, and the limits of cinematic truth.
Thirty-four days before going to prison, the notorious founder of Silicon Valley scientific technology company Theranos, Elizabeth Holmes, invites a sceptical film crew to document her every move. Nathan Fielder, known for the series Nathan for You and The Rehearsal, and Lance Oppenheim, the creator of the documentaries Some Kind of Heaven and Spermworld, accept the invitation, but instead of the expected confession, an unusual game of mutual questioning and mistrust begins. Through intimate conversations, awkward confrontations and unexpected twists, the film increasingly questions the motives of its protagonists, as well as those of the filmmakers themselves, exploring how possible it is to get to the truth when all participants are aware of the camera's presence.
Combining observational documentary, absurd humour and self-reflexive practices, Fielder and Oppenheim shape an almost three-hour cinematic experience that constantly subverts the viewer's expectations. Rather than simply exposing a well-known deception, You Can See Everything raises broader questions about power, trust and representation, and the fine line between sincerity and performance. Premiering at the 2026 Telluride Festival and subsequently featured in the programme of the New York Film Festival, the film has generated considerable interest among critics, who have particularly highlighted its innovative approach to the documentary form and its unpredictable narrative structure.
