Fractured Blue is a post-bop jazz quintet led by the distinguished Croatian jazz pianist Nikola Šantek. Alongside Šantek, the quintet comprises Vojkan Jocić on tenor saxophone, Zvonimir Bajević on trumpet, Hrvoje Kralj on double bass and Jerko Jurin on drums. All members of the band are active on the Croatian and international jazz scene and have received numerous professional awards and accolades.
The quintet cultivates a sophisticated post-bop style through original compositions characterised by rich harmonic structures, fluid melodies, open forms and expressive interaction within the rhythm section. Their music draws inspiration from the jazz tradition and the contemporary jazz idiom, interweaving them with elements of classical and contemporary music.
Fractured Blue’s music breathes and evolves – it is simultaneously rooted in form and open to spontaneity. The quintet’s sound and original approach have been influenced by musicians and composers such as Chick Corea, Dave Holland, Gary Burton, Herbie Hancock and Pat Metheny. However, the aim is not imitation, but the development of their own musical vocabulary and a distinctive sound.
In November 2026, the quintet recorded their debut album, which is scheduled for release in early 2027.
