Queer Moments 2026: Tiger

Monday, 16 November 2026 at 9 pm

Queer Moments 2026, organised by the Domino Association, presents four films from Canada, Japan, Greece and Australia. The programme encompasses various film genres and perspectives, from social drama and auteur cinema to romance and erotic thrillers, and the films explore identity, desire, family relationships and tensions between the individual and society, opening up space to encounter experiences and stories that rarely reach a wider audience.

Tiger
r. Anshul Chauhan, 2025, Japan

TIGER is an independent feature film inspired by the real-life experiences of the LGBTQ+ community in Tokyo. Writer-director Anshul Chauhan offers a raw and intimate look at Japan's older queer population through the story of Taiga, a 35-year-old gay masseur. When his father falls ill, Taiga returns home to a family crisis: his sister pressures him to renounce his inheritance rights, using his hidden sexuality against him. In a society where coming out can mean losing everything — family ties, a secure home and financial stability — Taiga is faced with difficult choices. The film also explores the growing Japanese trend of so-called “marriages of convenience”, in which gay men and lesbians enter into legal marriages for practical reasons rather than for a romantic connection. TIGER reveals the difficult decisions faced by LGBTQ+ people in a culture that often prioritises tradition over personal freedom.
