The 5th Cherry Pop Festival
Block of films / 71'
Sweet Cherries, the first block of the international short film programme of this year's fifth edition of the Cherry Pop film festival, presents five films that explore sexuality, desire, identity and power dynamics from different perspectives. The documentary Venus 2000 (Jan Soldat, Germany) follows the anticipation and trial of a new intimate device, while the feature film Olivia (Ben Richardot, France) raises questions of repressed desires and sexual identity through an unexpected night-time encounter.
The mockumentary Dick Pic Lover (Anna Mikheeva and Valentina Novikova, Russia) questions the phenomenon of photographs of male genitalia and their role in contemporary visual culture, while the documentary Players (Francesca Burrani, Italy) follows a queer, trans and non-binary collective creating their own space for safety and free expression. The block concludes with the feature film Because of (U) (Tohé Commaret, France), a story about a young woman trapped in a toxic relationship whose reality begins to distort after a violent argument.
