Tuškanac Visiting: Short Tuesday

Tuesday, 13 October 2026 at 9 pm

A programme of the Croatian Film Association which screens domestic and international short fiction, documentary, experimental and animated films once a month. It was launched in 2006 under the name Experimental Tuesday, and has been called Short Tuesday since 2010.

Silk and Salt

Seven animated Croatian films, made in the last few years, explore facets of contemporary society, adopting entirely personal, and at times unexpected, perspectives. Travelling through the macro-spaces of the universe or the micro-spaces of intimacy, the characters and shapes in these films embark on new adventures in search of answers to the question: what place do age-old human needs such as love, creativity, togetherness and acceptance hold in today's world? Three stories of (dis)belonging, anticipation and connection, framed by a narrative of great (historical and contemporary) migrations, are brought together in the new film block of Short Tuesday. Through films by local director Renata Poljak and the Lebanese-French duo Michelle and Noël Keserwany, Silk and Salt explores how the experiences of departures and separations, of anticipation and nostalgia, and the geographical and emotional search for a better future, affect individual destinies, even generations later.

Continuing the theme she opened with the film Partenza (Italian for “departure”), in which she connects the mass historical emigration from Dalmatia with contemporary migrations, in Porvenir Renato Poljak also turns her gaze towards the Future. This is, in fact, the translation of the name of the capital of Tierra del Fuego – Porvenir, to which, a hundred years ago, many of our emigrants sailed in search of better living conditions. Drawing on personal family memory, Poljak asks whether the memories of our ancestors remain inscribed in our bodies, and a similar thought runs through the film by the Keserwany sisters. The Golden Bear-winning Larvae connect East and West, “a forgotten past and an unpredictable present through the prism of gender, labour and diaspora”, in the words of the directors.

After the screening, there will be a discussion with multimedia artist and filmmaker Renata Poljak.
