La Vénus électrique
Directed by: Pierre Salvadori
France, 2026, colour, 122'
Paris, 1928. Suzanne, a desperate carnival entertainer known as the “Electric Venus”, earns a living with a humiliating act in which men pay to kiss her and receive an electric shock, to feel the “electricity of love”. One night, while stealing from his clairvoyant neighbour, Antoine – a grieving painter who wants to contact his late wife – mistakes Suzanne for the clairvoyant. Although reluctant, Suzanne cannot refuse the money and performs a convincing séance that deeply moves him.
Antoine invites her to another session and pays her generously. As Suzanne leaves his villa, she is confronted by his agent Armand, who witnessed the deception. At first he condemns her for exploiting his friend's grief – until Antoine, inspired once more, begins to paint. Recognising an opportunity, Armand suggests they continue the deception and offers Suzanne a share of the profits. She returns regularly to conduct séances, secretly studying the diaries of his late wife to maintain the illusion. But as a romantic spark ignites between Suzanne and Antoine, the line between performance and genuine feeling becomes blurred, threatening to destroy everything…
